Legal and General Advocate Greater Home Security
Published: 28/07/08
A recent survey carried out by Legal and General has found that householders in the UK could do more than they are doing to ensure their homes are made secure.
The survey found that almost a third of UK householders had an alarm fitted but over half of them admitted that they never checked it to make sure it was working properly. This scenario carries through to many other areas too. It seems that checking things is something we as a nation are quite poor at. Around half of the people spoken to in the Legal and General survey have never checked the electrical wiring in their property for example, a third of them have no idea whether their loft insulation is adequate, or even if there is any! Just over a quarter of us have also ignored the boiler.
Simple checks such as the ones advocated here could mean the difference between a simple repair job and a potential disaster. For home insurance companies of course it can also mean the saving of many millions of pounds, hopefully translating into lower premiums too.
