Esure Seek Stronger Planning Regulations

Published: 16/09/08

Following last years floods across large parts of the UK Esure began researching the plans for future homes and found that of the 3 million new homes set to be built in the next two years around 1 million will be built on flood plains.

With the knowledge and experience already gained almost 90 percent of property buyers have said they would not buy a property that is on a flood plain, which is not really surprising. What is a surprise though is why these type of locations are being used in the first place. Anyone trying to move home would find it very difficult to sell a property built on a flood plain. There are also obvious concerns for insurers, as Esure are pointing out.

Along with the Association of British Insurers, Esure are asking for more stringent planning regulations, making it the responsibility of the planning committees and the builders to ensure only suitable locations are used for building new homes.
