Following what was the strongest earthquake felt in the UK for almost 25 years Abbey National are hoping it will have shaken up a few homeowners as well as homes, prompting them to get home insurance.

Following the earthquake at a little before 1am Abbey National received well over a thousand home insurance claims in the first twelve hours after, though many more were anticipated to come in over the coming days. To deal with the demand Abbey has added additional staff to its 24 hour claim department and also sent loss adjusters out straight away to begin working through the claims as quickly as possible.

The hope of Abbey National is that this earthquake will act as a wake up call to the 25 percent of homeowners who do not have home insurance in place. If they have not escaped damage then the cost to them could be very large and without insurance they will have to cover the costs themselves.
